Original. Authentic. Honest. At age 27, Fred Shafer is an old soul. Born in Las Vegas, raised throughout the Southwest and New York, Fred ultimately made roots in the Mid-West. His fatherless, nomadic childhood provides a template for his lyrically driven melodies and emotionally accessible songs. With a voice that harkens to the days of Joe Cocker, Al Green, and Bruce Springsteen, Fred delivers these heartfelt songs with unparalleled sincerity. In a time of cookie cutter performers and gimmick bands, Fred relies on the only proven recipe for success: talent combined with good old-fashioned hard work. September 29, 2009 will mark the beginning of "The Resistance", when Fred will release his highly anticipated new album, "Resistor".
Produced with Jamey Perrenot (Taylor Swift, LeAnn Rimes, Paul Brant), "Resistor" features standout tracks, "Letting You Go", "Why You're Gone" and "Into The Ground". "The Fred Shafer EP," the basis for "Resistor", was produced by Brian Sperber (Moby, Hinder, 3 Doors Down) and Mike Mushok (guitarist for Staind) and yielded, "Going Blind", the video for which featured Mushok (Staind).
Fred's music has already been featured in television favorites like FX's, "The Shield" and "Ultimate Fighting Championship", as well in films like Miramax's hit, "The Station Agent". He has shared the stage with Chuck Berry, Kid Rock, Journey, The Goo Goo Dolls, Staind, Collective Soul, Maroon 5, Billy Ray Cyrus and many more, delivering "…blistering, bold, guitar-driven sounds" (Vanity Fair), as well as features in Billboard and Hit Parader. Fred has sold over 17,000 records and his songs have been added to the play lists of over 50 commercial and college radio stations: "It's All On Me" reached #1 on two of these stations. Recently, Fred began writing songs for other artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Autumn McEntire, Canadian Idol, Pop Stars and more.
Fred Shafer is currently on an International Tour to support "Resistor" through 2009/2010. In addition to dates in the US, Fred will team up with Armed Forces Entertainment in October and travel to China, Japan, Singapore, S.Korea and Diego Garcia Island to perform for US & UN Troops stationed overseas.
